For over a decade, before there was any music, there were words. Notebooks carried through Sydney, through Italy, through years spent moving across the US, the Caribbean, and Asia, filled with lines that weren't written for anyone but me. Painting and sculpture gave some of them shape. But some needed something a canvas couldn't offer, a voice, a rhythm, a way to be heard instead of just seen.
My Concrete Box began there. Every lyric on this album started as a poem, written by hand, about silence, grief, and the slow work of letting go of what we lock away. The words are entirely mine. The sound around them, the melody, the arrangement, was built electronically, shaped from my own direction to carry the feeling of the writing rather than fix it in place.
This is what happens when the poems already living in my paintings finally get to speak.
